To Recognize an Emergency

What does recognize mean? To recognize is similar to know something or understand something. For example,  a person who speaks Hmong will recognize the Hmong language when someone is speaking Hmong. A person who speaks Karen, Ahmaric, or Spanish will recognize when another person is speaking the same language.

People recognize different things all the time. If we are shopping at a store and we see someone we know from work, church, or school, we can say, "I recognize you!" This means we know who the other person is.

To recognize an emergency means a person knows the signs and symptoms of the emergency; if someone is choking the person usually puts their hands on their throat. When a person sees this we can say we recognize that that person is choking. There are many different types of emergencies and understanding the signs and symptoms of different emergencies helps us recognize what the emergency is.
