Identify the Hazards
Hazards are something in a person's environment that could cause an accident. Read the following to identify what type of hazard it is. While bloodborne pathogens are a biohazard there are also slipping hazards, tripping hazards, and fire hazards.
What type of hazard is it? Is it a bio-hazard, tripping hazard, fire hazard, or slipping hazard?
1. An accident happened in the office. Someone cut their finger when the light bulb broke. There is blood on the counter and the chair.
2. There is a cord on the floor in the classroom. It is plugged into the wall next to the door. If a student comes into the classroom and doesn't see it they could trip.
3. There are paper towels next to the heater. The paper towels are flammable. They could catch on fire when the heat turns on.
4. Someone spilled milk on the floor of the store on aisle five. It is slippery. Someone could slip in the puddle and get hurt.
5. There is a banana peel on the floor. Someone could step on the banana peel and get hurt.
6. Someone left a stack of paper next to the kitchen stove. If someone doesn't see the paper when they light the flame on the stove it could start on fire.
7. There is a lot of ice on the sidewalk where all the students walk. They could slip on the ice and break a bone.
8. Someone forgot to tie their shoes. Their shoe laces are very long. They could step on the shoelace and fall down.
9. There are used needles on the floor. There is blood and other bodily material on the tips of the needles.
10. There are flammable substances next to a hot flame. The flammable material could start a house fire.
