Determining Eligibility
To be eligible for something means a person is able to start and participate in a program. For example, a person who is a citizen of the United States is not eligible to join a program for citizenship because that person is already a citizen.
People who take citizenship classes need to be eligible. To be eligible a person must be seeking citizenship.
There are many things a person can be eligible or not eligible for. Another word that is like eligible is to qualify. For example, to be eligible for riding a roller coaster a person must be so tall.
To be eligible to ride the roller coaster a person might need to be 4' 8" that is four feet eight inches tall. A person who is smaller than this is not eligible and does not qualify. A person who is taller or bigger than this height qualifies and is eligible to ride.
What does a person need to have in order to be able to drive a car? What makes a person eligible for driving? A person must have car insurance and a driver's license. To be eligible to drive a person has to be sixteen years or older.
Some programs like PCA/CFSS services require a person meet certain qualifications. To determine if a person is able to use PCA/CFSS services someone needs to ask that person questions to decide if they need help or do not need help. If the person needs help they are then eligible. If they do not need help, they are not eligible. A qualified professional is someone who knows what questions to ask to determine if someone needs PCA/CFSS services.
