Community
If you go on a walk or ride on the bus one can say, "I took a look around the community." When walking around outside your house or apartment you can see a lot of people, places, and things.
Community can also mean a person belongs to the same group of people. If a person is from Ethiopia, Laos, Mexico, or Minnesota, one might say they belong to people of the same community. A person who is Hmong could say, "I belong to the Hmong community." A person who is from Somalia might say, "I belong to the Somali community." A person who is Karen from the Burma/Thailand border could say they belong to the Karen community in Saint Paul.
Schools.
Are there any schools close to where you live? A school is part of the community.
Churches.
A lot of people still attend church on Sunday. All of the people who go to the same church on Sunday are part of the same religious community. A church is part of the community.
Stores.
The places you go shopping are part of the community. Stores are part of the community.
Libraries.
Libraries are full of books, computers, and other resources for people who live in the community close to the library.
Parks.
Parks are another great thing to have in a community. Parks are great for community members with children.
