Assessment Process

An assessment is when someone looks at, tests someone, and asks questions to determine something about a person. For example the CASAS tests used at school are to assess a student's English level. When teachers decide what class a student should be in a teacher may ask the student questions like, "What letter is this? Can you read this sentence? Or what sound does the letter B make? What sound does SH and CH make?"

These questions help the teacher assess the student. The questions help the teacher determine which test the student should take. The test score then helps the teacher determine what level of instruction the student should get.

There are assessments for many different things. For example, a car may be assessed by an auto mechanic, someone who knows a lot about how cars work. An auto mechanic is a trained professional who knows a lot about cars and can assess a vehicle when something in the vehicle is not working. If a car is broken and is not working, an auto mechanic will give the car an assessment to determine what is wrong.

In PCA and CFSS services there is an assessment process for people who need help from these services. These assessments help determine what the person needs help with. Every person in PCA/CFSS is different and they require different services. Some people may need more medication and some people may need help shopping while others may need help putting on clothes. The assessment process helps determine what the person needs from the worker.
